Project ALIEN 2nd consortium meeting, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, January 9-11, 2019

The 2nd Consortium meeting was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 9-11 January 2019 and was organized by the University of Malaya. The work of the meeting was opened by the Vice Rector of the University of Malaya Prof. Dr. Kamila Ghazali and the Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science of the University of Malaya, Prof. Dr. Abrizah Abdullah. Invited speaker Prof. Dr. Aishah Abu Bakar analyzed the benefits of active learning in engineering education.

During the meeting the 1st instructor training event of the ALIEN project took place. Participants engaged in problem-based learning activities in groups constructing towers made by cards. The objective was to create a tower as high as possible that could withstand a specific weight (a 1 kilo box of chocolates). The event demonstrated problem-based learning principles that can be applied in non-digital and digital formats. The session was highly animated with a high level of engagement by participants.
