PBL in Multimedia Applications Architecture course, IPP

Course overview

This course provides the knowledge and competences related to specific Graphics and Multimedia Systems software development methodologies and their practical application. In the end, students are able to understand concepts and apply the technologies related to the manipulation of multimedia information including the production, transmission, storage, standardization, integration, synchronization and protection of that information; Apply methods and processes for multimedia design and development; Analyse and use tools, APIs and technologies for multimedia development; Analyse and use development environments for multimedia applications; Develop a multimedia project using specific tools.

Use of ALIEN services and tools

This course follows a flipped classroom and project-based learning strategies towards the design, development and evaluation of multimedia applications. Material for the theoretical lectures is prepared beforehand and given to students. Classes are used to discuss those contents and relate them with practical implementation. Based on those classes students are asked to conceive, design, develop and evaluate a multimedia application using specific tools. Over a 8-week period students investigate the users’ needs, identify suitable technologies and apply appropriate development methods to create a prototype system. The project-based learning approach challenges the students to think about what data they need to capture and on how they will then analyse the data and infer conclusions for improving their prototype. The PBL approach is based on ALIEN’s pedagogical approach.
