PBL in Learning Game Design course, TLU

Course overview

This course provides overview of the instructional design (focus on didactics of technology enhanced learning) and build connections between instructional and game design. Students are asked to generate ideas how learning can be integrated with the games and play but also design, implement and evaluate learning games. Participants in piloting 

This course belongs into Digital Learning Games (DLG) master’s programme and is scheduled on the first part of the second semester (Feb – Mar).

In 2020 the number of participants was 41. Most of them (27) were masters students from the DLG programme. 7 Educational Technology (ET) master’s students, 4 Erasmus exchange students and 3 from other programmes.

Use of ALIEN services and tools

This course follows the project-based learning, design based learning and learning through teaching educational strategies. Students are asked to for bigger teams (4) in order to cover all competences needed in learning game design (instructional designer, conceptual designer, graphical designer, developer). Teams are asked to develop one game from idea to a working prototype and use it in the real training situation. Students are asked to attend on Euneos vocational training course for teachers as a trainers.

In year 2020 the Euneos course was cancelled and students were asked to transform all their prototypes into digital format and pair review each other games:
