PBL in Game Development Project course, TLU

Course overview

This course belongs into an elective course module of Game Development. The goal of the course is to implement theoretical knowledge acquired during the other courses in this module in the framework of bigger practical project. Game Development Project is organized in parallel with the Agile Project Management course. Bout courses are syntonized and support each other.

Participants in piloting 

This course took place first in 2020 autumn. 22 students attended, mostly from second year Digital Learning Game master’s program (17), 3 Erasmus students and 1 from some other program.

Use of ALIEN services and tools

During this course students are asked to form small teams (3 members min, 5 members max) and execute one game from the idea till working and tested product. Topics that will be covered during this period: project planning and execution, team forming and leading, role assignments and responsibilities, decision making and problem solving, game development and documentation, work meetings and progress reports, final product presentation. Semester is divided into 5 2-weeks long sprints.

In the end of the course students are asked to evaluate games created by fellow teams with the help of an online assessment form (https://forms.gle/Y1KkqojomRPMwoQe9). They also are asked to complete team self-evaluation where every team member’s individual contribution is evaluated. Previously earned points are adjusted according to this evaluation.
